A fisher is a person who captures fish or other animals from water. This can be in the ocean, along the coast, or in inland rivers and lakes. Fishers who catch fish and other animals for profit work in commercial fishing. When people catch fish for pleasure or for sport it is called recreational fishing.
Fishers used to be called fishermen. The word fishers is now used because both men and women work in this job. Fishers use a number of different methods in their work. Special tools are also needed. Fishers go through training and their work is sometimes very dangerous.
