Animal caretakers are people who take care of animals. Animal caretaker jobs vary depending on where they work and the types of animals they look after. Caretakers do not work with farm animals such as cows, pigs, or chickens. They take care of pets such as dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and fish. Animal caretakers also work with horses, zoo and marine animals. They exercise, feed, water, groom, and bathe the animals. Caretakers also play with the animals and provide friendship.
Animal caretakers clean and disinfect the cages or other places where the animals live. They also repair these when needed. Animal caretakers notice changes in an animal’s behavior. These could mean that the animal is sick or injured.
